Accessing Services

The Disability Liaison Officer (DLO) can assist with information and advice about accessing services. Please consider making contact early in the academic year so that you have the most appropriate arrangements in place.

The administration staff may be able to answer your questions. If further assistance is needed they will book an appointment for you with the DLO.

Appointments are available Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 4.00pm.

Confidentiality

The nature of a student's disability or medical condition is kept confidential within Disability Services unless the student agrees that a certain level of disclosure to academic staff would be advantageous.

The word 'disability' is used in a generic way to protect the student's privacy. It is used in letters to Course Co-ordinators and other documents to describe all physical, psychological and psychiatric conditions and injuries that are verified to the University by a health professional.

Whilst a DLO compiles information about the disability or medical condition, when making arrangements with academic staff about reasonable adjustments, the focus will be on the functional impact of the disability or medical condition.

A student's choice to access the services of Disability Services is not reflected on their transcript. The University has policies which aim to protect and support students with disabilities and eliminate discrimination wherever possible.
