Course Changes: Information for Students Who Commenced Study Prior to 2008

In 2008, the University began changing some of its undergraduate courses. This page briefly describes these changes, and students are encouraged to check the Faculty-specific web-pages accessible via the quicklinks box to the right of the screen for more detail.

What is changing?

The University is changing to a uniform system of unit values for its undergraduate courses. Courses will be changed so that the unit value will be a multiple of 3 (i.e. each course will either have a value of 3, 6, 9 or 12 units).

When will the change happen?

The process of changing courses began in 2008, with a focus on Level 1 courses. In most cases, revised Level 2 courses will be introduced in 2009, revised Level 3 courses in 2010, and (where available) revised Level 4 courses in 2011. There is a variation to this timeline for courses offered by the School of Psychology and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (see below).

Will the changes affect me?

Most students who commenced study in 2007 (or earlier) and have been studying full-time are not likely to be affected by the revised course offerings, and will be able to complete their program of study without significant impact. Students who are in the position of having to repeat courses, however, may be affected by these changes.

Students who have studied part-time at some point during their program may be affected by the changes, and the extent of the impact will vary depending on when they started their program and how much of the program has been completed.

Students who intend to study courses offered by either the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences or the School of Psychology should note that there will be changes to both the Level 2 and Level 3 courses offered in 2009.

Since the effect of course changes varies from faculty to faculty, students are strongly advised to consult the specific Faculty web-pages listed below before they enrol for 2009.
