         Quicklinks

The Australian Learning and Teaching Council (formally Carrick Institute) was launched in August 2004 with the explicit aim of promoting and advancing learning and teaching in Australian higher education. The Institute's core activities include the awarding of grants and fellowships, as well as awards for university teaching.

Applying for an ALTC Award for Australian University Teaching. These are awarded to University staff who have been nominated by their insitution. Self-nomination is not permitted. The Committee for Learning and Teaching Awards (CLTA) at the University of Adelaide is responsible for recommending to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President (Academic) those University staff it feels qualify for an ALTC Award. Staff are welcome to submit an expression of interest or may be invited to submit an expression of interest to the Committe in January and February of the calendar year. Only with the approval of the DVC&VP(A) or his delegate will an application be submitted from the University to the Insititute.

Applying for an ALTC Grant. University staff may apply for any appropriate ALTC Grant, and are encourage to do so by the Division of the DVC&VP(A). The CLTA will provide both peer review and assistance in preparing and submitting applications.

Assistance. The  Division of the DVC&VP(A), through the CLTA and the Centre for Learning and Professional Development (CLPD), encourages applicants for the awards and grants by providing peer review and assistance in preparing and submitting applications. The awards are open to both Academic staff and Professional staff, to both teams and individuals. For further information contact Ms Barbara Brougham, Executive Officer of the CLTA: barbara.brougham@adelaide.edu.au; phone: 37457.
