Public Art and Heritage Tours

Museum of Classical Archaeology with Dr Margaret O’Hea
Time: 11.30am
Location: Mitchell Building basement

Take a guided tour with Dr Margaret O’Hea, Director, and explore the treasures on display in the Museum including Attic Marble lekythos fragment 4th century BC, terracotta sarcophagus from Tarquinia (Southern Etruria, Roman, ca 100 BC) and Villanovan cremation urn (northern Italy, 9th century BC).

Development and Alumni and Art & Heritage Collections of the University of Adelaide invite you to join a tour of the University’s many State heritage-listed buildings. These buildings demonstrate the venerable age of the University and include some inspired building projects. Come and enjoy our built heritage.

Public Art on North Terrace Campus
Time: 3:00pm
Location: Meet your guide in front of the Mitchell Building

Tours of public artworks by South Australian artists on the University of Adelaide North Terrace Campus. This will encompass work by Geoff Wilson, Greg Johns, Clifford Frith, Hossein Valamanesh and Johnnie Dady.

Tate Museum
Time: 2.00pm
Location: Mawson Laboratories

The Tate Museum was established in 1925 and named after Ralph Tate, Elder Professor of Natural Sciences at the University from 1876-1901, the Tate Museum collection includes minerals, rocks, fossils and specimens that illustrate geological phenomena. Also amongst the items you can see when visiting are items collected during Sir Douglas Mawson’s expeditions.


Campus Tours

Time: On the hour every hour, starting at 11:00am
Location: Campus tours leave from Bonython Hall
Duration: Approximately 45 minutes.

Campus tours allow you to become familiar with the University grounds. The tour will guide you through some of the original University buildings, provide insight into some of the most modern labs and show you areas of general interest.


Mitchell Building – Self-Guided Tours

Time: 9:30am-3:30pm

Tour the University’s oldest building during Open Day – the University of Adelaide-Living Life Impact. Situated next to the Art Gallery of South Australia, the Mitchell Building was first occupied in 1882 and housed the entire University in its infancy.

Today it accommodates the University’s senior administration, including the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and President. A war memorial for students, staff and graduates who served in World War 1 is located in this beautiful heritage building along with portraits of former Vice-Chancellors.

Information leaflets on the Mitchell Building will be available and University of Adelaide Alumni Guides will be on hand to answer questions about the Mitchell and other heritage buildings on the North Terrace Campus.


Laboratory Tours

Guided laboratory tours will be available throughout the day. Please refer to the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences and Faculty of Sciences displays for further information.
