Free Postgraduate Lunch

From time to time, the AUPGSA sponsors a Postgraduate Lunch on the North Terrace campus.  It provides a rare opportunity for postgraduates to meet colleagues from other faculties and disciplines.

Thesis Supervisor Award

In 2007, the University introduced a Thesis Supervisor Award (officially known as the Award for Excellence in Higher Degree by Research Supervision).  If you are a postgraduate research student, you are welcome to nominate your supervisor(s) for this Award.  Your nomination will need to be co-signed by at least 2 others, including at least one University staff member.

For 2008, the deadline for nominations is Friday September 12.

The 2007 winner was Professor Martha Augoustinos (School of Psychology).  In addition, High Commendations were made to Associate Professor Amanda LeCouteur (Psychology) and Associate Professor Elizabeth Koch (Music).

The AUPGSA Staff Awards

The annual AUPGSA Staff Awards recognise and thank members of the University community who go the extra mile in assisting postgraduate and Honours students.  Awards are presented in 4 categories:

  • Thesis supervisor
  • Lecturer at Honours, Masters or Graduate Diploma level
  • General staff member, eg departmental secretary, laboratory technician
  • Collective award to a School, Discipline or Department.

You are invited to view the 2005 Award winners and 2006 Award winners.  (The Awards were not held in 2007.)

How the Awards operate:

  • Eligibility: Candidates must be employees or units of the University of Adelaide, and must be nominated by postgraduates and/or Honours students of the University.
  • Nominations are called by the AUPGSA in Term 3 of each academic year (ie August and September).
  • Prize-winners are chosen by a judging panel comprising one AUPGSA Councillor and several respected members of the University community.
  • At the AUPGSA Awards Night in October, each nominee receives a thank-you certificate from the AUPGSA, and the most worthy nominees are personally congratulated by the Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of Graduate Studies.

A final remark ...
Winning isn't everything!  It's a great honour to be nominated for the AUPGSA Staff Awards, and we try to emphasize thanks and appreciation rather than prize-giving.
