Australian Bureau of Statistics - Confidentialised Unit Record Files & AusStats

The ABS has an agreement with the Australian Vice-Chancellors' Committee to provide public use of Confidentialised Unit Record Files (CURFs) to participating universities for research and teaching purposes. CURFs contain unidentifiable data from ABS surveys in the form of a unit record. Access to CURFs is available either on CD ROM, or through the Remote Access Data Laboratory (RADL) where the CURFs are available via a secure internet-based data query service.

A list of available CURFs and their contents is available from the ABS website. This website also contains a list of CURFs that are expected to be released and their approximate release date. You will also find useful information about CURFs, how to use them, your responsibilities, and information about the ABS-AVCC CURF Agreement mentioned above.

Applications for access to CURFs can be obtained by contacting Felicity Cheek in the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President (Research) on 33278, via email: felicity.cheek@adelaide.edu.au, or by downloading the following Individual User Undertaking Application Form (pdf 52kB) and Request For Access to a CURF Form (pdf 61kB). If more than 5 CURFs are being requested, please complete the Request for Access to Additional CURFs Form (pdf 38kB). Once completed, the signed application form must be sent to Felicity Cheek for processing.

The ABS website also provides information about access to web-based services for a wide range of standard statistical products including ABS publication and time series data (AusStats). Alternatively, enquries should be directed to the Electronic Information Resources Librarian, Mr Stephen Cramond on 33629.
