However, other than those targets specifically for the Aboriginal population, many do not directly address levels of inequality across the community. This web site provides an analysis of 29 targets (or supplementary measures) from the revised South Australia's Strategic Plan (January 2007), taking an inequality perspective. The intention in presenting the data in this way is to add another dimension to the information already available in the Plan. This report explores the role that the vocational education and training (VET) system can play in assisting people move from welfare to work. The researchers examined the experiences of VET students from the relevant welfare groups and sought the views of other key stakeholders such as TAFE staff and Centrelink personnel. Conclusions include that VET can play a positive role but that there needs to be collaboration between VET and income support sectors to ensure that potential barriers are overcome. Mon, 07 Apr 2008 10:12:00 CST Equity Works: Achieving the Target of 2% Aboriginal Employment in the South Australian Public Sector (Final Report to the Don Dunstan Foundation) http://www.sapo.org.au/pub/pub10405.html DATE: Monday, 18 February 2008 SUMMARY: Since 2003 there has been significant effort by the South Australian government to enhance Aboriginal peoples' employment outcomes in the public sector. Objective 6 of the South Australian Strategic Plan has an accompanying target to increase the employment of Aboriginal employees in the public sector from 1.2% to 2% by 2009. The Don Dunstan Foundation (DDF) allocated funding for a project to identify the factors which are assisting and the factors which are impeding progress towards the achievement of the 2% Target.
